A moment of suffering
April 15, 20094Sing praises to the LORD, O you His saints,
and give thanks to His holy name.
5 For His anger is but for a moment,
and His favor is for a lifetime.
Weeping may tarry for the night,
but joy comes with the morning. (Psalm 30:4-5)
I don’t think it occurs to us enough to suffer well. We’re told to do so. Here David praises the Lord because the anger of the Lord only lasts for a moment. Our lives are defined by His favor toward us. But we should also be over-joyed that God disciplines us, gets angry, because His purpose is our maturity and His set goal is our perfection (Hebrews 12:7-11; James 1:2-3) to His glory, His purpose (Romans 8:28)!
